Review: Afternoon Tea at L'Oscar London

by The AfternoonTea.co.uk Team

L'oscar London is a stunning boutique hotel located in the heart of Holborn, set within a beautifully restored former Baptist church. The interiors are adorned with rich velvet fabrics, intricate gold detailing, and dramatic chandeliers, creating a luxurious and intimate atmosphere. The dining area, where Afternoon Tea is served, features plush seating and elegant table settings, making it a perfect spot for a sophisticated afternoon.

The Afternoon Tea is a truly delightful experience, offering a selection of finely crafted treats across the traditional three courses.

The experience is served all together upon a three tiered stand adorned with dried flowers. We tucked into the savoury first course, which includes a variety of finger sandwiches and savory bites. The Smoked Salmon was served as a canape upon a crisp circular slice of rye bread.  The Egg and Truffle Mayonnaise is rich and flavourful, with a hint of luxury from the truffle, in a soft brioche roll. The staff were very accommodating with any dietary requests, and I was able to choose other options from the vegan menu to cater for a halal diet. Each sandwich is meticulously prepared, with fresh ingredients and balanced flavors.

We then moved on to the scones, a quintessential part of any Afternoon Tea. At L'oscar, you can expect both plain and fruit scones, served warm, with a crisp exterior and soft, fluffy interior. Upon the three tiered stand are mini silver platters of clotted cream, strawberry preserve and my favourite: lemon curd. These are the perfect accompaniments, allowing you to enjoy the scones in the traditional way. The scones are baked to perfection, providing a delightful contrast between the slightly crunchy outside and the tender inside.

Finally, we indulged in the patisserie selection - and what a delight these were! Each dessert is a work of art, both visually stunning and deliciously indulgent. The chocolate & pistachio praline tart has a delicate floral flavour with orange blossom in the whipped ganache and the rhubarb & strawberry choux is light and fruity. The Elderflower cheesecake has mango layers adding an exotic tropical feel to a very delicate piece - they are all sublime!

The service at L'oscar London is impeccable. The staff are attentive and knowledgeable, ensuring that every guest feels special. They are happy to accommodate dietary preferences and provide recommendations. The overall experience is one of elegance and indulgence, making it a perfect choice for a special occasion or a luxurious treat.

The Afternoon Tea at L'oscar London is a memorable experience, combining exquisite food, stunning decor, and exceptional service. Whether you're celebrating a special event or simply indulging in a refined afternoon, L'oscar offers a truly delightful experience. Visit our Instagram page to check out a reel with more details.
