Afternoon Tea at The Coral Room

Situated on the edge of Soho and walking distance from the British Museum, you will find The Coral Room at The Bloomsbury, where they are serving up daily Afternoon Tea. You walk into a beautiful coral painted room with elaborate glass chandeliers dotted across the high ceilings echoing 1920’s style decor. You are then seated into a warm cosy corner of the room where they typically serve tea.

We were shown a great selection of up to 9 different teas to choose from. From breakfast tea to Moroccan mint tea there is something for everyone. You are also given the choice to change your tea at any point of your Afternoon Tea. I was pleasantly surprised that they cater to halal diners which is great!

The Afternoon Tea was presented on traditional stand starting with the patisseries on top followed by warm scones accompanied by a plate of perfectly uniformed sandwiches. Both the sandwiches and scones were refillable. It is common to see sandwiches to be refilled but it was a first to see that the scones were too!

There were four sandwiches presented including the classic cucumber and cream cheese and of course the egg and cress sandwiches which were both perfectly seasoned and presented. It was so lovely to be served poached salmon and citrus crème fraiche on rye bread instead the classic salmon ribbons with cream cheese. My favourite was the red pepper and hummus on tomato bread. I was really pleasantly surprised on how much flavour they had packed into this one sandwich!

On to the scones, we were spoilt for choice with both a lemon and vanilla scone and a savoury cheese scone .Both perfectly golden and lightweight but yet so buttery rich. I have never tried a lemon scone and actually it worked so well there was a slight citrus zest running throughout the scone which cut through the richness of the clotted cream. As for the cheese scone this was delightful seasoned well and had the right amount of cheese running through it without it feeling heavy.

Finally, on to the prettiest patisseries! The range of patisseries is so well balanced which I love you can tell so much thought has gone into the flavour combinations and textures so you have a completely different experience for each delight you tuck into. We started off with the dark chocolate, coffee , passionfruit delice. This was super rich and melted in your mouth the coffee definitely enhanced the chocolate flavour and the portion size for this was just the right size.

Next up was the saffron and raspberry tart packed with flavour and encased it one of the best buttery crumbly short cut pastries. The pistachio eclair was rich in flavour but really light in texture. Lastly the star of the show was the apricot. This was a real show stopper, and stunning apricot moose filled with apricot jam like filling and sat on a lightly sponge and finished with airbrushed chocolate to give it that real life apricot look.

Overall, this was a great Afternoon Tea experience I was very much pleasantly surprised at not only the choice of teas and scones but also the portion sizes at the price point that they are offering this service. The service throughout was great everyone was so friendly and attentive I had the best time and would highly recommend it.
