Afternoon Tea at The Landmark

To celebrate The Landmark London's very own chefs Mauro Di Lieto and Daniel Schevenels winning Bake Off: The Professionals 2023, the luxurious hotel has launched an Afternoon Tea inspired by some of the patisserie created on the show.

Upon entering The Landmark Hotel, you're immediately struck by the grandeur of the Winter Garden's stunning eight-story glass-roofed atrium. Below the towering palm trees, a stunning chocolate showpiece, created by the winning pastry chefs of Nike the goddess of victory towers over their award.

Taking our seats, the gentle sound of the piano playing in the background further elevates the serenity of the atmosphere, setting the scene for a wonderfully elegant Afternoon Tea experience.

After choosing our teas, the sandwiches are served. This very traditional selection of finger sandwiches is both fresh and flavoursome. Standouts include the egg mayonnaise, infused with truffle and a hint of dill and the cucumber sandwich, which was refreshingly light. The coronation chicken, a nod to British culinary history, was delightfully spiced without being overpowering.

We were constantly offered refills of any sandwiches we wished but after another round, we took the difficult decision to save space for the sweet selection!

I’m so glad I did, because these scones are some of the best I’ve ever tried in London. Warm and fluffy, they embody the quintessential British tea experience. For the new menu, replacing a tradition raisin scone is a version inspired by a Sache torte. The candies apricot and marzipan version is paired with a velvety hazelnut chocolate spread. This rich, smooth ganache is incredible and melts into the warm scones creating the most indulgent treat.

Just when I thought the experience couldn’t get any better, we dived into the pastries. These desserts are not just visually stunning, but also decadent in flavour. The four delicate pieces, taken from cakes presented to the judges in the show, are a delightful combination of textures and tastes, showcasing the pastry chefs’ skills.

The raspberry and lemon Pavlova was tangy and vibrant, a smooth fruity topping with a crisp meringue base – it was (one of) my favourites! The chocolate & salted caramel Swiss roll was filled with a banana cremeux and peanut butter – and topped with peanuts cutting through the sweetness and adding texture. The cutest little yellow chocolate sphere is home to a white chocolate and ginger cheesecake with pears and yuzu and lastly, the almond choux is filled with a light vanilla custard, passion fruit and controversially, coriander! Whilst it’s not a concoction I had heard of previously, it just worked so well.

The Afternoon Tea at The Landmark Hotel is a luxurious affair, perfectly blending tradition with modern elegance. It was an afternoon of indulgence that won't soon be forgotten, and a real treat to actually try some of the desserts that were seen on screen!

Afternoon Tea at The Landmark London starts from £70 per person, for more information and to book click here.
