Review: Jurassic Afternoon Tea at Apero at The Ampersand Hotel

by The AfternoonTea.co.uk Team

Inspired by their award-winning Science Afternoon Tea, The Ampersand Hotel in South Kensington have created a Jurassic themed Afternoon Tea, taking its cue from a time when dinosaurs roamed the earth. We were kindly invited to try both the Adult and Children's versions of this exciting new offering, served inside the stylish Apero Restaurant.

One thing me and my daughter love is a really good themed Afternoon Tea, and The Jurassic Afternoon Tea at Apero certainly was a roarsome experience! I expected nothing less, as we absolutely LOVED The Ampersand's Science Afternoon Tea.

So much thought and detail has gone into making this a great experience, from the tea stand to the menu cover! To begin, my daughter was presented with a dinosaur themed mug with hot milk, and she was able to make her own hot chocolate with a dinosaur shaped chocolate stirrer. This was also accompanied by chocolate sprinkles and marshmallows.

Not long after came the Afternoon Tea! The children's version is presented on a bright green dinosaur tea stand, of which my daughter was immediately in awe and couldn’t wait to tuck in! Due to nut allergies, our Afternoon Tea selection may have looked a little different to yours, but it was still fabulous. In case you were wondering, they also have vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options.

My personal highlight of the Afternoon Tea was the brioche with roast beef, watercress, and cornichons. So much so that I had to get a refill! The scones were also great, especially with the delicious passion fruit curd.

My daughter's Afternoon Tea came with a mini hot dog, a T-Rex foot cheese straw, and a dinosaur shaped jam sandwich. She loved it all, but the pastries were definitely her favourite aspect. The dark chocolate and caramel dinosaur egg nest was a huge hit - it looked amazing and tasted great!

The experience ended with my daughter becoming a real palaeontologist, dusting for chocolate fossils in "soil". I thought it was a lovely way to round off the day.

One of the great things about this Afternoon Tea is that you can combine it with a trip to the Natural History Museum, which is only a short walk away. It would be the perfect dinosaur day out!

Jurassic Afternoon Tea is served Monday - Sunday from 12pm until 5:30pm. To find out more and book your experience, you can click here.

It’s a great Afternoon Tea and one that dinosaur lovers big and small can enjoy!
